Soy Wax

What Exactly is Soy Wax?

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it a solid at room temperature.
The leftover bean husks are commonly used as animal feed. The U.S. grows the vast majority of the world's soy beans, primarily in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana.

Consumer Information

  • Did you know that soy wax candles can be called soy wax if there is as little as 25% soy wax used?
  • If soy wax candles are stand-alone, that is, in a pillar or votive style, they may contain paraffin.
  • 100% pure soy wax candles melt like oil so they must be in a container.
  • Gooseberry Hill Candles uses 100% pure soy & palm wax blended in their container candle range, to ensure that you receive the best burn and scent throw available from your candle

General Facts

  • You can burn your soy candles too long. The maximum recommended burn time is 3 - 4 hours per burn,
  • generally 1 hour for each 2.5 cm of jar width. Burning longer than the recommended time is also dangerous, especially when combined with improper wick trimming. Although we use heat-safe glass, an improperly trimmed wick can create a high flame and temperature forming a deep melt pool and fatigue the glass.
  • Soy wax cleans up easily with soap and water, but remember it is still a wax and should not be poured down the drain.
  • Each time before you light your soy candle, trim the wick down to 5 mm
  • Do not allow wick trimmings to fall into your wax melt pool.
  • Burn the soy candles in areas free from drafts.
  • 100% vegetable, made with Pure Soybean & Palm oil, GUARANTEED!
  • All NATURAL and biodegradable.
  • Manufactured meeting FDA and Kosher standards.
  • Contain NO petroleum, paraffin or beeswax products.
  • Contain NO pesticides and NO herbicides.
  • Contain NO Genetically Modified Material.
  • No Animal Testing.
